Filling in the spaces
en plein air, upstate NY
Mark making. Art is mark making. A way of gathering the unformed bits and molding them into tangible, visible, connectable marks. But what matters most is not the quality or the depth or the cleverness of the marks that are made, but how we fill in the spaces or how we live in the spaces between the marks themselves and the fits of mark making.
The quiet spaces ask not to be defined, just lived. It’s the gnarliest spaces that characteristically seek definition and understanding. Perhaps somewhere between the gnarliest lines of my own tangled tales exists a quiet that will reveal itself to me slowly over time. Its the places of resistance that, however, expose the deeper marks of living and urge my expression.
